Randonneuring

"Randonneuring" is a term to describe a non-competitive endurance event, by which so called brevets (written acknowledgements) are given for riding a certain distance within a time-window. Common distances and their max time to arrive:
  • 200km 13.5h (14.8km/h): e.g. 1 day: 200km (6:00 - 19:30)
  • 300km 20h (15km/h): e.g. 1 day: 300km (4:00 - 00:00)
  • 400km 27h (14.8km/h): e.g. 2 days: 200km (12:00 - 22:00), 200km (5:00 - 15:00) - 5 hours sleep
  • 600km 40h (15km/h): e.g. 2 days: 300km (6:00 - 22:00), 300km (6:00 - 22:00) - 8 hours sleep
  • 1200km 90h (13.3km/h): e.g. 4 days: 350km (5:00 - 24:00), 350km (5:00 - 24:00), 300km (6:00 - 20:00), 200km (6:00 - 15:00)

The most well known 1200km brevet is the Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) tour, which is held every 4 years, and the last time in 2007. In order to participate PBP one has to do 200, 300, 400 and 600km brevets in the same year the PBP is held.

With the trip to Strasbourg I rode 525km in 41.75 hours with 15kg baggage - so the 600km brevet in 40 hours is doable for me.

Race Across America (RAAM)
