2014: Central Europe

May 09, 2014: Gloggnitz - Wien/Vienna - Stockerau 119km (6:23) 3047km

This day I planned to reach the Donau/Danube, which meant to reach Vienna - first along smaller roads, but the closer you approach Wien/Vienna, the more traffic and eventually you face roads where bicycle are not permitted anymore, but bicycle paths are indicated as option. So I ride on bicycle paths, and slowly come closer to the city, but at some point it seems to detour so much, that I switch back to the normal road with some significant traffic, but at this point I don't care anymore . . . and finally reach the center of Wien/Vienna, the Stephansplatz - I rest for a moment, and then I continue slowly, navigating with my smartphone and off-line maps, and leave the city by one of the bridges and reach the bicycle path of Eurovelo 6, and head direction north close to Stockerau, where I find a good place.

May 10, 2014: Stockerau - Traismauer 51km (3:02) 3098km

This section along the Donau/Danube I consider most beautiful as you can see on the photos, I ride until Traismauer and find a place just 5m aside of the river. The river is clean enough so I can wash some of my cloths again.

Rainy day so I rest for today.

May 12, 2014: Traismauer - Melk - Wallsee 121km (6:55) 3219km

Also a nice section of the Danau/Danube bicycle path, mostly sunny this day, with some brief thunderstorms which last 10-15 minutes, and then the sun comes back again. I reach Wallsee and camp just along the bicycle path.

May 13-14, 2014: Wallsee 0km (-) 3219km

I moved a few hundred meter, to be not so exposed to other cyclists and the increasing north wind.

May 15, 2014: Wallsee - Linz - Passau 134km (8:00) 3361km

Although the weather is rainy, I decide to ride, and this day will become one of the longest rides, reaching Mauthausen, with some of the memories about the WWII concentration camps, then reaching Linz - finally a few kilometers before Passau I camp at a weird place, a gravel pit or disposal area - it is one of the best sleep I had on this travel, likely a mix of the long day and the dryness of the place.
