3 Days Hike: St. Bernadino Pass - Val Calanca

The Calanca valley I wanted to hike before in spring or fall, so this hike combines St. Bernadino Pass and Calanca valley together.

Arriving ~12:00 at St. Bernadino Pass by postcar via Chur by express bus to St. Bernadino village - sunny but very windy, 10-15°C, hiking toward Pass di Passit, it states 3 1/4 hr but it takes me 4.5 hr - the trail isn't keeping the elevation but some up and down apprx. 200-250Hm along the route - I feel exhausted, even the first day was supposed to be easy, it wasn't. The sight on this short first day was amazing, seeing into the Misox valley - very windy on the path and also on the pass finally, where I decide to pitch my tent, the ~3hr descend from 2100m to 1300m is definitely beyond the scope of my endurance today. Beautiful place to pitch the tent, seeing into both valleys: Misox and Calanca.

After long good sleep, I feel stronger today but I know steep descend ahead of me - leaving the place ~8:15 already, as the sun hits the tend ~7:00 already, so early start. Steep descend, so I'm slow, careful for every step a take, even a small patch of snow - lukely I can slide down as stepping on the ice snow isn't easy despite of using my walking sticks - the valley is steep, and slowly reach the flatter ground at ~1400m, yes, the valley of Calanca is narrow, but beautiful, vibrant, beautiful forest. Reaching first village at Valbella ("beautiful valley") is the appropriate name of this village - further down, narrow street - and I reach Rossa, and decide to continue a bit further, after Santa Domenica I find a nice small spot next to the Calancasca river, with a small tree giving me early shade. Around the 17:00 the sun set below the neighbouring ride already, but it darkens after 21:00 eventually. Was a good day, more strength.

Good night sleep, the noise of the river next by was soothing, a few cow bells of the cow herd was kind of nostalgic - still in the shade I pack all my stuff, the tent covered by ticks, I try to pick each one before I pack the tent layers. Cauco as next village, and continue along the river and the route is beautiful in the forest, and reach Arvigo, and just missed the postcar by 10mins (next bus in 2hrs), so I decide to continue in the valley, the path isn't comfortable as before, first along the street, and then hiking up a bit again and over large stone field on a slope, every step taken with great care - and reach Buseno village, very small village, and just descending a bit further until Buseno, Paese (Molina) where this hike end.
